Sediment water filters remove the particulate matter that is present in all natural water sources. Drilled wells typically contain the least amount of sediment. Dug wells will often contain a moderate amount of sediment, and surface waters such as lakes, rivers, and ponds typically contain very high amounts of sediment. When high sediment loads are expected, it is advisable to consider a larger filter/cartridge system even if your dwelling is small or uses a relatively small volume of water.
